Introduction to the Series

Hey guys, (you are all my friends: I have a small world) the reason for this is to let you know that this week we are starting a 9 message series on the sermon on the mount. All summer long. This is as close as we get to a Jesus manifesto. I am approaching this series with fear and trembling.

Some of you might have already noticed the poster at the door announcing the series we are calling REVOLUTIONARY. One of my ex-students (graduated from highschool already) was walking outside the church, saw the sign and gave me a call on the spot to debate about how el Che Guevara was more revolutionary than Jesus. This is going to be fun.

On the other side, this is a tremendous responsibility. I want to ask your help and involvement in 3 ways.
  • I want to encourage you to memorize the entire sermon over the next 9 weeks. Matthew 5-7. My girls and I have already started. 3 chapters in around 63 days? Piece of cake.
  • I want to invite your input: thoughts, ideas, doubts, questions, challenges, breakthroughs. I am attaching the passage breakdowns per week. The one thing I want to reject is plastic 3 point nice and neat message that preach but don’t transform. As followers, we’ve got to get it right when it comes to Jesus’ words.
  • I want to encourage us all to listen and read with open ears, let this sermon sink in and lets let Jesus transform us tru it. Orale?

Nine weeks: sermon on the mount: revolutionary! Lets hit this one head on.

Thank you all!

well I thought that this week's sermon on the Salt of the Earth was so good. For one, I had memorized that bible verse, but never gave it much thought as to why they heck I was "Salt." Paco explained it so good on Sunday. Salt is a preservative that keeps food from rotting, a fertilizer, breaks ice, all of that makes me see this verse in a whole new light. Today when I was walking to the corner store, I saw my 17 year old neighbor, whom I make small talk with every now and then. I finally asked for her number and told her we should hang out, all with the hope that I can share the gospel with her. I AM the salt of the earth, the salt on my block ;-)
